Academic Requirements
Academic Requirements:
Students expecting to advance to the next grade must pass fifty (50) credits each year. Current LAUSD policy indicates that students must also pass the English class and achieve a score of two or higher on the Performance Assignment Test given each year. Eight grade students must pass the 2nd Semester English and Math classes to be able to go to the High School without taking summer school. Student Eligibility for Activities: The LAUSD requires those students wishing to participate in special or school-related activities must comply with the "C" Average Rule. In addition, 8th graders wishing to participate in class activities or promotional (graduation) activities have a citizenship requirement. No more that 4 "U"s total in Work Habits and Cooperation and more than two "F"s. All students are eligible to participate in the various spirit activities sponsored by the Leadership Class throughout the year. Academic Recognition: Eighth Grade Awards Night - Wilmington teachers honor eight grade students for academic achievement and for personal achievements at the end of the school year. Students who are selected by their teachers as "Top Student", "Highest GPA" or "Most Improved" in a subject area are rewarded for their efforts. Parents and friends of the students are invited to share the excitement as students receive awards and recognition for their work. |
