Gifted and Talented Education
Karen Kimball is the GATE Coordinator. The GATE program provides a differentiated educational program to challenge our gifted and talented students. State identified GATE students are automatically put into GATE classes for their core subjects. Non-state-identified students may also be in GATE classes if recommended by teachers. Identified gifted students may only be removed from GATE classes after a conference with parents .
Parents of GATE students are invited to join a semi-monthly discussion group with teachers. Topics to be discussed include characteristics of gifted students, motivating underachievers, high school options, and helping your child prepare for college. Dates and times will be announced, and Spanish translation will be provided at all meetings.
Parents wishing to have their child assessed for GATE classes should contact their child's counselor or Ms. Kimball.
